Kiwanis Club of Mukilteo Week of August 14

Hello everyone,

I have a bit of sad news today: Ed Taylor passed away in his sleep on Saturday, August 12, and Pam and Tim were with him. A celebration of life is planned for the end of the month at the Boys & Girls Club. More information will be forthcoming, so please reach out to Pam and Tim in the meantime.

Al’s funeral and celebration of life last week was bittersweet but joyous. Many of us were in attendance, as well as many family members, neighbors and friends. Al was well loved and many funny stories were shared. He was quite the character.  The Board voted to initiate an “Albert J. Dantico Memorial Scholarship Award” in 2018. Funding and specifics are TBD.

This week’s speaker is Joy Ingram from Clothes for Kids, a wonderful non-profit that provides clothes for many kids in the Mukilteo School District.  Last week, United Way of Snohomish County President/CEO Allison Warren-Barbour shared their new focus on breaking the cycle of poverty through multi-generational collaboration with grants to community partners. Their focus is on improving literacy with the age group 0 – 8 years old.

We need 2-3 additional volunteers at Vintage Aircraft Weekend (Historic Flight Foundation) on Saturday, September 2 from 12 – 4pm. I’ll be reaching out to many of you to help fill this manpower gap. It is a community project for us, and we’re paid $500 to boot.

Salmon Bake is in less than 4 weeks!  Sign ups will be available each meeting.  We will also be looking for volunteers to help Oran with a Packs for Kids food drive on September 16.

Thank you George for stepping up to help set up our morning meetings at the Golf Club. The officers can take care of picking up the stuff for the evening meetings.
